Fall 2007
Spring 2008
The Spring semester for
the School of Discipleship began January 13 and will conclude
May 4, with February 24 and March 23 being the only Lord’s
Days we will not hold School of Discipleship. We’re offer
four adult classes (summarized below), a college class on worldviews
lead by Ed White, Ronnie Long’s involvement with youth classes,
and added features to the younger children’s classes. All
of this is to provide every opportunity for all at Redeemer to
increase their understanding of the God we serve, be better equipped
to live faithfully in the context of covenant community, and to
support the preaching ministry of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
Please be aware that ALL CLASSES begin at 10:00 a.m. and are 45
minutes in duration with a 15 minute break between the end of
the children and adult classes and the beginning of the second
worship service.
An Overview of John
Calvin's, The Institutes of the Christian Religion
Boyd Murrah, teacher in Beto Lecture Hall
The goal of this two-semester class is to better know the God
Calvin knows, and better understand the conflicts that existed
in the church of his day. The battles in our day have not changed
much since Calvin’s time, and a better understanding of
the Institutes will equip us even more to see things God’s
way, as we confront an unbelieving world and a sometimes-ailing
church.
Love and Respect
The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs
Dan Allen, teacher - Kramer Lecture Hall
If you’ve been married 3 days, 30 years or want to prepare
your heart for a future spouse, this class provides great benefit
for those who want to do marriage God’s way. God has created
men and women with very different needs, desires, expectations,
and ways of communicating. The Love and Respect class deals with
all of these issues with a particular emphasis on effective and
loving communication.
“It’s Our Story and We’re Sticking to
It”
An Overview of a Redemptive-Historic Approach to Understanding
God’s Word
Weston Hicks, teacher - Peter Center, Room 125
A proper understanding of Scripture, and its claim on us, is foundational
to faithful Christian thinking and living. This class introduces
an approach to reading “Our Story” that emphasizes
the unity within its diversity, tracing the great biblical themes
in their recurring patterns, to give a better understanding and
a greater appreciation for God’s grand, overarching design.
The Christian life is a continuing response to the creating and
redeeming Word of God. An accurate understanding of his revealed
Word is essential to a life characterized by covenant faithfulness
and gratitude.
Church Live 101, or, Doing the Hard Work of Getting Along
Jack Smith, teacher - Beto 203
How do we do the hard work of getting along? Covering a variety
of topics (worship, corporate confessions, sacraments, leaadership,
service, contentment), we'll be looking at how we glorify God
in the life of the church by dwelling together in unity. With
an emphasis on developing and preserving the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace, we'll look at the theological basis for
unity as well as various ways we can contribute to the process,
benefit from biblical unity, and glorify God as we seek to honor
him in worship and church life.
College Class
Worldviews
Ed White, teacher - Beto 129
This class will explore the key tenets of a Christian worldview
along with the implications and applications of living and defending
this worldview in a secular collegiate education environment.
The class will explore issues like: "Who is God?", "Who

Church?" The class will be discussion-based and include elements
of fellowship and prayer.
